Jorge’s Poem/The Mission District

Listen to an excerpt from our immersive Coffee Country tour, in which Jorge Argueta reads his poem “In the Mission” and reflects on the challenges of home-making when you are far from home.

SF MISSION

Coffee Country takes visitors through the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco, which since the 1960s has been a place of sanctuary for many refugees and migrants arriving in San Francisco, especially from Central America. In the past 30 years, the increasing pressures of gentrification have led to mass evictions in the neighborhood, leading many long-term residents to fear that the diverse working-class Mission that offered them a home in exile may be disappearing.
